1A - State Championship 2009
Rich v Duchesne

All in all, I had a great year.... 3 championship games: RMFL, WFL and a State High school final. Great year indeed. Great people to work with also.

The championship game, as you can tell, was held on a blizzardy day at Alta High school. The field was shoveled while we were playing. It was still a memorable day.. one that will not be forgotten.

November 6, 2009 - Springville vs Woods Cross

Joe Lance - H, Kasey Cullimore - U, Jim Kilburn - L, Craig Adams - R, Ken Carlson - BJ
This game was instense. I think the biggest thing about this game was the fact the losing team was the one that played better outside the red zone but could not score when it needed to most.

Coach Fernandes and I go back to jr high and high school... and tonight.. was not the best reunion we've had. I don't hold any hard feelings. I appreciate a competitve person. I wish both teams could have won tonight.. it was a hard fought game.

October 23, 2009 - Juan Diego vs Morgan

Jaxon Karren - B, Craig Adams - R, Tyler Charlesworth - U, Jay Weight - H, Larry Killips - L

On paper.. this was going to be a close game. On the scoreboard.. it was not. I have to admit.. I thought Juan Diego was a better team. It was close until the 2nd half.. and it became a 34-0 blowout. It was a nice, smooth game, from my point of view. I had the first time to work with Jaxon Karren.. and the first time at Juan Diego's field. I have a game film from 2002 that Juan Diego has promised me since then.. and I hope to someday get. It was from my first state championship. Someday...

Next week.. PLAYOFFS!!!!

October 16, 2009 - Bonneville vs Sky View

Todd "Nuke-em" Noker - H, Wade Potter - L, Craig Adams - R, Drew Weidman - U, Bart Poll - B

I am doing both teams this year for the third time each.. how fitting they would be playing each other. I have been fortunate to not have any situations arise that would make things difficult as that can happen when teams see you too many times in a short amount of time. I was surprised that Bonneville won. I really thought they had a better defense.. but that Sky View's offense was too potent for them. Well, Bonneville's win came off of special teams and defense.. so I was wrong. Bonneville held on for the win. I owe Drew a milkshake. We had a play that I hadn't called in a long time and went the wrong direction due to thinking it was offensive.. and then after telling Drew and confirming it with Bart, walked away.. announced the penalty.. then had the sinking feeling of .. oh.. I am wrong.. I was wrong. True to form.. I told Drew.. and we lived with it. Cost the other team 2 1/2 yards. Not a big distance but the principle. Thanks Drew.

Nice Boa ... found in the locker room to loosen up the pre-game chatter.

October 9, 2009 - Layton vs Clearfield

Craig Adams - R, Bill Christensen - B, John Braun - H, Jack Arrington - U, Rusty Allen - L

We had the ball, well.. a facsimilie of the ball, delivered by parachutists... or whatever you call them.. and the night was great weather. We had the same odd-ball heckler from the Northridge / Layton game.. so now we know he comes from Layton's fan base. He even knew Rusty by name.. what a mental case. Anyhow, the game was fair.. not really too close and Layton took Clearfield to town 42-22. I had a bunch of whining going on.. and the nightmare "that's a hold.. " is still ringing in my head.

Of all the wise or noble things I can think of.. it was just a regular night for football with some good crew members to go along for the ride. Next week... back to Bonneville v Sky View... teams that I will have had three times this year.

September 30, 2009 - Bonneville vs Weber

Crew
Rusty Allen-L, Brian Shaw-H, Scott 'three times in one week' Zellmer-B, Kasey Cullimore-U, Craig Adams-R

The game was the first this year where the weather played a part. It had rained and even snowed in a few places earlier in the day. It was cold. I am glad I have good under-layers of stuff. Well worth the investment. The game was kind of booooring, but I did have a moment of excitement as a ball was stolen from a running back and run back for a TD... right at me.. I had to high-tail it out of the way and try not to throw an un-wanted block!

Weber won 21-14

September 26, 2009 - Snow College vs Glendale CC

Chris Swank-B, Craig Adams-R, Dave Stireman-U, John Braun-L, Scott Zellmer-S, Justin Robinson-H, Morgan Bulkley-F

I was fortunate to get a JC game as a fill-in white hat. What a difference the timing and mechanics are from high school to college. I had a Janet Jackson mic and worked.. about half the time. I had a good crew of people to work with. Snow took it to them 47-14.

September 25, 2009 - Bountiful vs Viewmont

Craig Adams - H, Jim Kilburn - L, Scott Zellmer - B, Rick Leetham - U, Jay Weight - H

Bountiful and Viewmont. Cross town rivals since forever. I have had a bunch of grudge or rivalry games this year.. and I love it. Competitive games are ones that keep you sharp and on your toes. We had a great crew. We also had a weird never before seen by me foul called against the Viewmont sideline for someone having a whistle in the crowd. The game got tight.. but Bountiful pulled out a victory with a 23 - 21 score. What a perfect night for an outdoor event.. weather, scenery.. good friends. This makes officiating a joy.

September 18, 2009 - Sky View v Box Elder

Dewayne Martin - B, Craig Adams - R, Justin Robinson - H, Andy Hunnel - U, Chase Richins - L

This game could have gotten uglier that it was without some good crew people taking care of things. I think we had over 10 personal fouls in the 2nd half alone. It was a wipe out from the 2nd quarter on. Sky View 818-6 over Box Elder.. oh wait. .no it was 48 - 6.

Ralph was not able to make it.. but we did get the AD to take our picture while we were chowing down a burger / drink at half-time.
I had a bad start to the game.. Left my shoes in the garage on the car.. Luckily Justin has the same size show and had two pairs.. but one was at his home so he had to spend 30 minutes getting me shoes. Then Justin, didn't have socks so I lent him a pair of mine. After the game, I realized my towel was out in my car and Dewayne tore his in half.. just for me.. I was in tears.. just kidding. But it was nice gesture. Things like these are what make life; life! and fun and memorable. I had fun with the crew. I had not worked a high school game before with Chase and only an RMFL game with Dewayne.

I had the long solo ride back home as all the rest of them were from either Logan or Brigham City. That's ok.. I get to travel just like the rest of them do. I don't mind it so long as I have the time... and don't forget to bring my shoes!

Sept 11, 2009 - Northridge v Bonneville

the crew
Todd Noker-H, Jack Arrington-U, Randy Gangwer-LJ, Bob Jensen-B, Craig Adams-R

This game was one I might remember for various reasons. It was 9/11... which takes me back to what I call the 'old days' which changed my world in ways that I have not enjoyed. The game I officiated that week was Wasatch at Granite. Both teams gathered together around the field and held hands and cried while the national anthem was sung. That game was played unlike any other since. No harsh words to each other... no moaning from the stands... or the coaches.. or the players.. just a night that made everyone reflect on things much more important than football: it was the fact that we lived in a country where we COULD play despite the despair everyone felt.
2ndly I had been moved to this game from another one (which I had really looked forward to having since it was a live TV broadcast). I was taken off a game at Syracuse and I won't say much about it.. I just was amazed that anyone would doubt my abilities.. or how I could officiate. 3rd was I got to work with a couple of new guys which is always a plus for me. That is what makes officiating a big part of my life: the unity, athletics, and energy in the atmosphere are all things I enjoy and give me peace as well as distraction to a crazy world.
Northridge 36 Bonneville 9
Play of note: an IW which was taken care of without major incident ++
Not too many flags ++
Some buddies in the stands on both sides to watch the game: alwasy a +

Sept 4, 2009 - Northridge vs Layton

Northridge vs Layton

Crew: Larry Killips-H, Drew Weidman-U, Kelly Dyer-L, Justin Nelson-B, Craig Adams-R

The game was close. I've been fortunate to get this great cross-town rivalry game now two years in a row. I always feel it will be a great game because the kids play hard and they are not cheap. When players play and coaches coach and they do it for the pure intent of beating an opponent, good things usually happen. At the end, Northridge connected on a touchdown with 10 seconds left to secure a win.

August 28, 2009 - Weber vs. Viewmont

Mark Elkins - H, Bruce Stokes - U, Todd Rasmussen - LJ,
Dave McDermeit - BJ - Craig Adams - R
A game with weird plays here and there... not a lot of scoring. A former official wanted to tell us we cheated the kids out of something. Oh yeah?!... lol

We had fun.. the weather was wonderful and the half time went tooooo long.

Viewmont won 9-7.

August 21, 2009 - Fremont vs. Sky View @ Romney Stadium

The Crew
Matt Schofield - H, Craig Adams - R, Dave Storey - LJ,
Tyler Charlesworth - U, Scott Zellmer - BJ

I am a little slow getting back in to things but not slow in the feel for the fall to come and football games to officiate! I was elected president of the NUFOA last year.. and had the responsibility of putting on the state rules clinic held annually at Juan Diego. I asked a few guest to panel some questions including Rob Cuff, Dusty Litster, Dee Burton, Fred Thompson and my old friend and former coach Bernie Yoachum. We did some good things.. and some things could have turned out better... but all in all it was a success. I even was on the winning team for the golf tournament. I started the season at Romney Stadium with Fremont playing Sky View, with Sky View winning in overtime 30-27. Fun way to start the season.

August 1, 2009 - Clinic - The show begins

Dusty Litster, Bernie Yoachum

We had a great time getting some 'you make the call' videos and some training. Ate some good food with some great guys.. and had a golf tournament afterward.
