This game was one I might remember for various reasons. It was 9/11... which takes me back to what I call the 'old days' which changed my world in ways that I have not enjoyed. The game I officiated that week was Wasatch at Granite. Both teams gathered together around the field and held hands and cried while the national anthem was sung. That game was played unlike any other since. No harsh words to each other... no moaning from the stands... or the coaches.. or the players.. just a night that made everyone reflect on things much more important than football: it was the fact that we lived in a country where we COULD play despite the despair everyone felt.
2ndly I had been moved to this game from another one (which I had really looked forward to having since it was a live TV broadcast). I was taken off a game at Syracuse and I won't say much about it.. I just was amazed that anyone would doubt my abilities.. or how I could officiate. 3rd was I got to work with a couple of new guys which is always a plus for me. That is what makes officiating a big part of my life: the unity, athletics, and energy in the atmosphere are all things I enjoy and give me peace as well as distraction to a crazy world.
Northridge 36 Bonneville 9
Play of note: an IW which was taken care of without major incident ++
Not too many flags ++
Some buddies in the stands on both sides to watch the game: alwasy a +
