October 23, 2008 - Bonneville vs Box Elder

Scott Schryver (HL), Shannon King (LJ), Craig Adams (R), Wyatt Cole (BJ), Steve Johnson (U)

Nice timing and trajectory...

This game was closer than most expected but then again that is why they play the games. Bonneville sputtered for most of the game offensively but did manage to score and win 7-0. Box Elder was certainly a much improved team from me seeing them earlier in the season.

October 16, 2008 - Syracuse vs Fremont

Rod Young (LJ), Scott Zellmer (BJ), Mark Elkins (HL), Tyler Charlesworth (U), Craig Adams (R)

This may have been a boring game to the spectators, but it was very enjoyable to work. The crew meshed very well and the game had a nice flow. Fremont came close to getting into the end zone in the last minute of play, but Syracuse ground out a 7-0 victory.

October 10, 2008 - North Summit vs American Leadership Academy

Peter Sorenson (LJ), Scott Schryver (HL), Bill Christensen (BJ), Skip Medrano (U), Craig Adams (R)
When the weather changes in Utah, you know it. Tonight was the first cold night of the season and around half time, the wind kicked on and it really was chilly. The game was a see-saw going from 33-0 at the half to 33-26 in the 4th qtr with the ALA attempting an onside kick. Final score was 40-26 for North Summit. They even gave us hot chocolate at half-time.

September 26, 2008 - Layton vs Northridge

Grant Horsley, Andy Hunnel (U), Troy Thurston (HL), Mike Reimer (LJ), Craig Adams (R), Joe Marelli (BJ)
This was an exciting game to work. We had a big crowd and the game went into overtime. Northridge looked like they were going to run away in the first quarter but Layton adjusted and came back to tie it in the 2nd Quarter. In overtime, Layton got a fg and Northridge missed theirs to end the game 17-14.

Sept 19, 2008 - Cyprus vs Cottonwood

Craig Adams (R), Robert Antczak (LJ), Allen Sybrant (HL), Jim Low (U), Joe Marelli (BJ)

Under the Cyprus 'C'

The game was a blow out, but I actually enjoyed the game. I thought we flowed very well and got to work with 3 officials with which I never had worked. Sometimes thats just how it goes. Last year this matchup was a war and the coach for Cottonwood was ejected. This year, cooler heads prevailed and some great teamwork avoided a repeat of that. Cyprus lost 37-0 but surprizingly, Coach Sudbury from Cyprus actually told us as we left that we had done a great job. We were done before 9pm. They treated us well with sandwiches and snacks and the showers were warm. Thanks Cyprus.

Sept 12, 2008 - Box Elder vs Sky View

Jack Arrington (U), Jim Kilburn (HL), Mike Reimer (LJ), Craig Adams (R), Rick Brenkmann (BJ), Dan Chase (good guy)

Toot

Games will be games but what makes officiating fun are the relationships you build over the years. Dan Chase is one of those people where I remember him starting on our JV crew with Bob Neuteboom, and coming to an unexpected stop this year as Dan's wife is riddled with cancer and a tumor. He is a hero to know what is more important in life. Family and friends are always the things you have to take care of first. Football, although we might act like it is the top thing on our agendas from August to November each year, comes in a true, distant sidenote near the bottom of the list. Good luck Dan and may you and your family be blessed to endure the true challenges in life.

Sept 4, 2008 - Davis vs Kahmeahmea Hawaii

Rick Brenkmann (BJ), Dave Stireman (U), Craig Adams (R), Mark Elkins (HL), Randy Gangwer (LJ)

This game was held on Thursday and was the KJZZ game of the week, being broadcast live on TV. The game was a close one down to the last series where Davis looked like they might have scored but the pass was ruled incomplete. The call, was right. Randy had a big time call and I think he got it right. We would have had a penalty had it been complete since the receiver had stepped out of bounds prior to coming in and attempting to catch the pass. Jay Welk was the AD from Davis and was very gracious about the ending. He showed great poise in the situation as it was his son that was also the receiver on that play. I got a call from Mike Petty in the locker room after the game and he was first to tell our crew it looked good. Some others are still undecided about the play.

August 29, 2008 - Syracuse vs Woods Cross

Mike Reimer - LJ, Randy Sedgwick - HL, Bruce Stokes - U, Craig Adams - R, Chris Swank - BJ

A decent game... that got a little sloppy towards the end. I made the signal for a penalty incorrectly but the crowd was fine since it was declined. Syracuse is now 2-0 after winning 14-0. I really liked the commute to this game.

August 22, 2008 - Alta vs Spanish Fork

The Crew - Craig Adams (R), Brian Brand (LJ), Gregg Bahr (HL), David Pedrazas (BJ), Russ Carter (U)

The field was like.. brand new. And the game was close until about the half time. Alta scored and wore the Dons out in the 3rd. I think this was the first game played on the new field and it was very nice. This was the first game I had worked at Alta also. I had a good crew and had a fun time. Thanks to Brian for his wife having her camera as Ralph couldn't make it this week.

November 16, 2007 - 5A State Championship - Alta v Layton

Chad Broderick - BJ, Richard Jones - R, Craig Adams - HL, Rusty Allen LJ, Duff Astin - U

I got a chance to see my lovely wife Pam on the field before the game started. That was a very meaningful moment to me. As much as I love to officiate, I loved having her there to share it with me. Thanks Pam. Love you.

The game itself was supposed to have been a blowout but I had other ideas of a closer game with Layton being the spoiler. The opening kickoff didn't disappoint as Layton ran it back for a touchdown. It was a tight defensive contest and Layton's offense couldn't put any points on the board. Final score Alta 19-7.

This was a great season... we only had one day of cold weather all year. The finals were played in 60 degree weather (all but the late game), and it was announced as the largest crowd ever to watch a high school game in Utah but later in the paper was reportedly the 2nd largest. Over 19,000 people to watch a game. It was fun but it sure was a big fish bowl.

I'd like to thank all the people I worked with this year. I had a great time with all of them... ok.. a few were not the best but I enjoyed this season more than any I can recall. Thanks to the great friends that have helped me along the way. I am ready to switch positions to become a full-time referee now.
